Albin O. Kuhn Library Gallery
The Albin O. Kuhn Gallery serves as one of the principal art galleries in the region. Items from the Special Collections Department, as well as art and artifacts from all over the world are displayed in challenging and informative exhibitions for the University community and the public.
In addition to exhibitions housed in this space, the gallery often hosts panel discussions, guest lectures and private gatherings for a number of disciplines and UMBC organizations. The Albin O. Kuhn Library is also home to the Rotunda Gallery, located on the first floor — which usually displays pieces from UMBC’s Special Collections — and the 7th floor Open Area, often the site of Social Sciences and Humanities Forums.
Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture
The Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture (CADVC) is located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building.
The CADVC is dedicated to organizing comprehensive exhibitions, the publication of catalogs, CDs, DVDs and books on the arts, and educational and community outreach projects. It offers extensive educational outreach initiatives and publication programs, often in partnership with a variety of educational and cultural institutions. Disciplines represented through its exhibitions, public programming, and/or publications include painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, photography, graphic design, imaging and digital art, video, film, installation and performance art, as well as advertising, television, industrial design, architecture, critical theory, art education theory and the study of art history and criticism.
Gallery 223 is a presentation and meeting space dedicated to sharing and advancing creative research in the Arts at UMBC. Located in Room 223, Performing Arts and Humanities Building, the gallery regularly presents 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, music, time-based works, and performance documentation by faculty in Dance, Music, Theater and Visual Arts.
A large flat-panel monitor screens 1080P HD video, and high quality stereo speakers playback audio and music. Comfortable seating, and a selection of teas and coffees promote a convivial atmosphere.
